ZACH FAJEN
Principal, Business Development
As Principal of Business Development, Zach leads sales and marketing for both construction and millwork at Fajen & Brown. He is responsible for cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with architects, designers, and—most importantly—clients.
With a background in the arts, Zach brings a unique creative perspective to his role. While earning his BA in Political Science from Denision University, he also studied studio arts with additional studies at Parsons School of Design in New York City and La Escuela de Diseño Altos de Chavón in the Dominican Republic. His artistic eye informs his approach to building and design, helping to ensure each project reflects both craftsmanship and vision.
Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Zach now resides in Annapolis, Maryland with his wife, Chelsea, their son River, their daughter Saylor, two dogs, and six chickens.
CALE BROWN
Principal, Construction Operations
As Principal of Construction Operations, Cale oversees all aspects of construction at Fajen & Brown, including estimating, pre-construction planning, and project management. His deep knowledge of building, ability to manage complex projects, and passion for construction science make him a highly effective leader in the field.
Cale holds both an MBA and a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources from the University of Maryland. His blend of business expertise and technical understanding allows him to approach projects with precision, efficiency, and innovation.
He resides in Solomons, Maryland with his wife, Lauren, and their son, Val.
JENNIFER PHILLIPS
Office Manager
A Maryland native, Jennifer brings over 20 years of experience in bookkeeping and office management to Fajen & Brown. She previously worked for her family’s ornamental ironworks company, where she gained a strong foundation in managing operations and supporting teams.
Outside of the office, Jennifer enjoys spending time on the soccer field or at cheer competitions with her daughters, Lillie and Molly.
She lives in Riva, Maryland with her husband, Brice, their two daughters, and their family dog, Roger.
TONY BAROSIO
Project Manager
Tony brings over two decades of construction experience to Fajen & Brown, beginning his career as a laborer. His expertise spans interior finishing, managing the construction of up to 15 homes simultaneously in new home production, and overseeing high-end custom home renovations and new construction projects.
Tony lives in California, Maryland with his wife, Sabrina, their son, Chase, and two dogs, Winston and Harry. His oldest daughter, Kyleigh, along with her husband Elijah and their son Leo, live in Hawaii, and his youngest child, Ava, is currently a student at LSU.
MIKE HAMILTON
Project Manager
Growing up in the construction industry, Mike developed a passion for building at an early age while following in his father’s footsteps. He began his career as a carpenter before earning a B.S. in Business Administration and Management from Towson University. Soon after, he discovered his calling in the custom home industry, where craftsmanship and attention to detail quickly became his focus.
As a member of the Fajen & Brown team, Mike is dedicated to delivering the highest quality custom homes and creating lasting value for his clients.
He lives in Arnold, Maryland with his wife, their two sons, and their golden retriever. In his free time, he enjoys playing lacrosse, training for triathlons, and hunting with his family.
RICK HEIBLER
Project Manager
Rick brings over 20 years of experience in high-end residential construction, with deep roots in the industry as the son of a builder in Connecticut. While working alongside his father from an early age, he developed a strong appreciation for craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the importance of building with integrity.
After relocating to the DMV, Rick developed a strong reputation for managing the most complex of residential projects with precision, professionalism, and a client-focused mindset. His approach is defined by his commitment to excellence, clear communication, and the ability to anticipate and resolve challenges proactively.
Rick lives in Ellicott City, Maryland with his wife Cindy and their two sons.
NICOLE VON BALLMOOS
Project Manager
A Maryland native, Nicole began her professional career in accounting and finance after graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park. She soon discovered her true passion for construction and design, prompting a move to Austin, Texas, where she quickly advanced to Project Manager. Nicole’s love for building, collaborative design, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for her work have made her a trusted and effective leader on every project.
Nicole prioritizes clear client communication and ensures projects progress efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.
She resides in Alexandria, Virginia, where she enjoys brunch outings and working on small woodworking projects for family and friends.
PATRICK WALSH
Project Manager
A Washington, D.C. native, Patrick takes pride in rejuvenating homes in his hometown and surrounding areas. He holds an MFA in Interior Architecture from GW’s Corcoran School of Art & Design and has worked with several of the region’s premier designers and builders. Patrick thrives at the intersection of construction and design, and as a Project Manager, he enjoys guiding both homeowners and architects through the decision-making process to bring projects to life.
Patrick lives in Annapolis, Maryland with his fiancée, Ally, and their dog, Theo. On weekends, they can often be found strolling along the bay or exploring new restaurants around town.
EDWARD CARROLL
Site Superintendent
With more than three decades of hands-on construction experience, Edward Carroll brings deep technical expertise and field leadership to Fajen & Brown. A lifelong resident of Montgomery County, Ed began his career as a building mover and rigger—an intense, precision-driven trade that provided him with a strong understanding of structural systems, site logistics, and the importance of planning ahead.
Over the years, Ed has earned a reputation for his strong work ethic, calm problem-solving under pressure, and unwavering commitment to excellence. As a Site Superintendent, he ensures that every job site runs safely, efficiently, and meets the exacting standards for which Fajen & Brown is known.
Ed lives in Maryland with his wife and two daughters. When he’s not on site, he enjoys spending time with his family and working on home projects of his own.
MIKE MCNUTT
Site Superintendent
A Texas native, Mike began his construction career in the summer of 1995 as a laborer while waiting for football practice to begin. His curiosity and drive led him to explore a wide range of trades over the years, including plumbing, electrical work, commercial irrigation, furniture and cabinet making, and custom home framing. He also earned an A.S. in Computer Science from Wharton County Junior College in Houston, Texas.
Today, Mike serves as a Site Superintendent at Fajen & Brown, where he draws on his diverse background to oversee the construction of custom homes with both technical expertise and thoughtful leadership.
Mike and his wife live in Texas with their three children, who keep them just as busy off the jobsite as on it.
JOE MANCINI
Site Superintendent
Joe began his construction career in Howard County, working on custom homes as a laborer. He quickly progressed to carpenter, lead carpenter, and ultimately site superintendent. Known throughout the DMV for his attention to detail and expertise across all phases of construction, Joe has earned a strong reputation with premier architects and interior designers. His mantra on the job site is: there are no problems, only solutions.
Joe lives in Eldersburg, Maryland, where he enjoys spending time outdoors and cooking gourmet meals when not overseeing projects.
JAVIER MARTINEZ
Site Superintendent
A Silver Spring native, Javier began his construction career immediately after high school, following in his father’s footsteps to become an electrician. He worked in the trade for 12 years before transitioning into general contracting, serving as a site superintendent for a respected local builder prior to joining Fajen & Brown.
At Fajen & Brown, Javier oversees the job site, managing subcontractors, in-house staff, schedules, quality, and all other aspects of construction. He takes pride in transforming outdated houses into contemporary, thoughtful homes and emphasizes the importance of teamwork and a positive work environment—lessons he learned from his father.
Javier lives in Frederick, Maryland with his fiancé, three children, and two cats, Lilo and Canelo. Outside of work, he enjoys coaching his child’s soccer team and cooking.
PAUL SPANGLER
Site Superintendent
With more than 25 years of experience in the building industry, Paul has built a career rooted in craftsmanship and precision. Starting out as a finish carpenter, he has worked on some of the region’s most notable and desirable homes, refining his skills and deepening his passion for woodworking along the way.
At Fajen & Brown, Paul is known for his commitment to schedules and uncompromising quality. He values strong relationships with trade partners and field crews, understanding that collaboration is essential to delivering exceptional results.
A Washington, D.C. native, Paul now resides in Kensington, Maryland. Outside of work, he is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting and fishing on the Eastern Shore.
CHARLOTTE FERGUSON
Director of Design
Charlotte began her career at a design-build firm in San Francisco after earning her B.A. from the University of Colorado Boulder and a Master’s Certificate in Interior Architecture from UC Berkeley. With over 12 years of experience at leading architecture and interior design firms across the country, she has developed a passion for guiding clients through the process of designing their dream homes—from selecting finishes and fixtures to ensuring strong long-term value.
After returning to her hometown of Washington, D.C., Charlotte served as Director of Construction at Zoe Feldman Design, focusing exclusively on residential projects. At Fajen & Brown, she bridges the gap between architects and clients, leading design development and working closely with the Cabriole Studio team to bring each vision to life.
TAI BRIDGES
Project Designer
After graduating from The Ohio State University with degrees in Psychology and Neuroscience, Tai took a leap of faith by relocating to Maryland to pursue a career in design. Though new to the industry, her passion for creativity and collaboration makes her a natural fit for the Fajen & Brown team.
Outside of work, Tai enjoys exploring the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. She can often be found rock climbing or painting at one of D.C.’s national parks.
CHARLES HAMM
Shop Manager/Cabinet Maker, Cabriole Studio
Whether collaborating with architects and interior designers or leading projects independently, Charles is responsible for the design and fabrication of custom cabinetry and furniture for Cabriole Studio, a division of Fajen & Brown.
After graduating from St. John’s College in Annapolis, he pursued formal training in cabinet and furniture making at the North Bennet Street School in Boston. Before joining Fajen & Brown, Charles worked with The Craftsmen Group, specializing in historic door and window reproduction. His craftsmanship extends beyond residential projects—his work can also be found at the Dumbarton House Museum, the Vice President’s Residence at the Naval Observatory, the Rayburn Senate Office Building, the Old Post Office/Trump Hotel, and the Apple Carnegie Library.
Charles lives in Silver Spring with his wife, their three daughters, and their dogs, Rigg and Potato.
JUSTEN KANTHACK
Production Manager/Cabinet Maker, Cabriole Studio
The product of generations of carpenters, Justen began his career apprenticing as a trim carpenter under his father. He went on to earn a BFA in Furniture Design from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design and continued his studies at the Denmark International School in Copenhagen.
Before joining Fajen & Brown, Justen worked extensively throughout the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region in custom home building, architectural millwork, historic reproduction, metal fabrication, and furniture design. In addition to his depth of fabrication knowledge and commitment to high craft, he focuses on streamlining production processes and ensuring each piece enhances and reflects the narrative of a client’s home and life.
Justen is currently renovating his home in Petworth, where he lives with his wife, their two sons, and two (grumpy) cats.
BRIAN CUMMINGS
Project Manager/Draftsman, Cabriole Studio
With 45 years of experience in the construction industry, Brian brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to his role. After graduating from the Technical Institute in New Amsterdam, Guyana, he began his career as a carpenter with the Guyana government, where he worked for 10 years. After relocating to the United States, he served as a Cabinet Shop Foreman in Temple Hills, Maryland, before spending the past 25 years in woodworking and construction—21 of those as a Project Manager for a woodworking company.
At Fajen & Brown’s Cabriole Studio, Brian draws on his decades of expertise to ensure projects are managed with precision, efficiency, and the highest standards of craftsmanship.
He lives in Port Tobacco, Maryland with his wife. A devoted Washington Commanders fan, Brian also enjoys spending his free time outdoors. His favorite pastime is yard work—whether building, planning, or planting, he takes great pride in keeping his hands busy.
ANDRUS KIIK
Cabinet Maker, Cabriole Studio
With more than 20 years of experience spanning sculpture, theater production, retail display, and cabinetmaking, Andrus brings a versatile background and a meticulous eye for detail to his work. Originally from Estonia, he carries deep pride in his Baltic heritage and the tradition of craftsmanship it represents. Skilled in woodworking, metal fabrication, acrylics, and fine finishing, Andrus has the ability to bring life to any concept. His favorite part of the process is the final step—seeing the satisfaction on a client’s face.
Outside the workshop, Andrus is gradually renovating his 1920s bungalow. His two cats may not contribute much to the construction, but they provide plenty of emotional support along the way.
JUAN CRUZ
Cabinet Maker, Cabriole Studio
Juan brings over 20 years of experience in residential construction and fine woodworking. He began his career as a carpenter, spending a decade honing his skills before moving into a leadership role as a lead carpenter, where he supervised a team of eight. Eventually, Juan transitioned into the shop, focusing on cabinetmaking and installation. His systematic approach to production and keen attention to detail make him an essential part of the Fajen & Brown team.
Juan lives in Hyattsville, Maryland with his two younger sisters and two nephews.
ISAC DA COSTA
Finish Carpenter
Originally from Brazil, Isac is a skilled carpenter specializing in trim work and custom detailing. He divides his time between the shop at Cabriole Studio and the field with Fajen & Brown, where his versatility and dedication to craftsmanship are highly valued. Known for his reliability and strong work ethic, Isac plays an integral role in both fabrication and on-site installation.
Isac lives in Germantown, Maryland with his wife and their cat, Mel. On weekends, he enjoys discovering new restaurants or hosting friends and family for a traditional Brazilian barbecue.
JAVIER ELIAS
Carpenter
Javier’s high-energy level and 30+ years of experience ensure that projects move according to schedule while being executed at the highest standards. Javier is always looking for ways to improve himself and those around him. His inquisitive attitude and eagerness to help make him the ideal team member at F&B. In his spare time, you can find Javier working with his wife on weekends at their booth at Eastern Market.
